FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Foundations For Living, Inc. (FFL) Announces New Approach to Address Homelessness
WAUPACA, WI - After careful consideration, prayer and evaluation of our programs, Foundations For Living has decided to redirect our focus. This decision stems from our commitment to better equip individuals experiencing homelessness with more proactive rather than reactive solutions.
The FFL Warming Center's operation required significant resources, including time, volunteers, and staff. The center was operational for 180 days a year from November 1st to April 30th. However, over the years, we have noticed a decline in the number of individuals utilizing the center. We also have noticed a large decline in necessary volunteers to run the center, which we have seen across FFL in general.
As a result, we have decided to forgo this program and refocus on ways to better serve those experiencing homelessness. Starting in November this year, our focus will shift towards more forward thinking measures. We aim to utilize our resources more effectively and make a sustainable change in the lives of individuals facing crisis situations.
Our new initiatives which will now be available to men AND women that are in crisis:
1. Access to our shower facility, on a scheduled basis for homeless individuals.
2. Access to our laundry facility, on a scheduled basis for homeless individuals.
3. Regular classes to meet physical, spiritual, and everyday life skills needs. These classes will include a variety of topics, including Rent Smart, Bible Study, and other programs led by community members. These programs aim to improve cognitive and emotional well-being, particularly useful for those experiencing crisis moments.
4. Expand resources given to individuals based on greatest need.
We will continue to utilize our Meal Train volunteers to provide meals during these programs, ideally around lunchtime.
We understand that change is not always easy, but we believe this new approach will allow us to make a more significant impact in the lives of those we serve. We are committed to being good stewards of the funding we receive from individuals and grants and believe this proactive approach will help individuals make better life choices.
Our mission statement is “We are a Christ-centered organization dedicated to supporting individuals by providing essential resources, emotional support, and guidance to help them build independent and self-sufficient lives.” We are confident by making these changes that we will truly be able to help people “build independent and self-sufficient lives.”
We are excited about this new direction for Foundations For Living, a trusted community resource that empowers individuals to achieve lasting stability. We look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in our community.
